Hey Techie,
Welcome to the very first issue of this newsletter!
We are currently over 100 people in this little community and I feel like hugging every one of you.
Now don’t be surprised that I addressed you as a techie because if you’re here, that means you’re on your way to becoming a tech sis or a tech bro.
Heck, some of you are already in the game and some are my bosses. I see you. 🫡
Most of the messages I received after sharing that story focused on how to get started in tech. So let’s start with that.
The technology sector is a very broad one and you’d need to know exactly what you want to do before diving in.
This decision can be determined by a lot of factors: Your interest, your skills, your current line of work, and the job market.
To be honest, none of these factors inspired me(well, maybe the money played a small part). I was just frustrated and looking for what to do when I found coding. I chose it particularly because I heard that it was hard and I love doing hard stuff.
It has been a good ride for me and that’s what matters the most—to find something you enjoy doing and will stick by it until you get to the level you want to be.
For some, that might not even be a tech career and that’s perfectly fine.
So how do you figure out which particular path to follow? Research. Search Google for “career paths in tech” and dig into the results. You can also ask ChatGPT or another AI tool you use for detailed explanations.
If you need more specificity, take a quiz on GoEducate. You’ll be asked a couple of questions and they’ll provide you with careers that match the response you gave.
Pro tip: Research is a key skill in any tech career, so consider this your first test—learn how to find the information you need.
That’s your first task. Spend some time exploring the different paths, and when you’ve made a decision, feel free to reply to this email and share it with me. I’d love to hear from you!
In the next issue, we’ll talk about where you can get the resources to kickstart your journey.
If you’re wondering what the real starter pack is, it’s one ash joggers, a backpack, photochromic glasses, a water bottle, and an insane amount of stickers and swags from tech events. Check every tech bro/sis you know, they have this combo. 😂
Till next time
